APPLICATIONS
PRESERVATION
Permeable timber is treated to comply with BS 5589.
The timber is placed in a treatment vessel and a vacuum applied which removes excess surface moisture. Whilst still under pressure, the treatment vessel is flooded with preservatives and the vacuum is reversed drawing the preservatives into the timber. The tank is then drained and a final vacuum is applied to remove excess preservative.
Frames are treated in their component form after all machining and before assembly. Sashes are treated as units following assembly.
Compatability
The preservatives used are compatible with most paints, glues, stains, mastics etc.
PAINTING/STAINING
Blairs no longer uses any solvent based material to coat its products and all paints and stains are now water -based. Blairs has invested in one of the largest and most sophisticated painting facilities for factory finishing timber windows in Europe, giving us the capability of producing windows to the highest quality standards with one, two or three (full factory finish) coats of micro-porous paint or stain.
Meticulous care is given to the film thickness applied, as this is a key factor in determining durability. Moisture content, paint viscosities and drying temperatures are strictly controlled to ensure consistency.
When windows are supplied primed only, subsequent coats should be applied within 3 months of manufacture.
Our standard paint finish is white, however, we are the company that likes to say "The answer is yes" so tell us what colour you want and we will see if we can provide it for you.
