GOUROCK ROPEWORKS
Port Glasgow, Scotland
Blairs was given the enviable task of providing the windows and doors for the Gourock Ropeworks development in Port Glasgow, Scotland. Built in 1886 the building had fallen into disrepair since production had stopped in 1975 and the future had looked bleak for this local landmark.
Hamilton Private Equity Partners Ltd bought the abandoned mill building with the vision of creating authentic loft style apartments and challenged Blairs to recreate the look and feel of the original windows and doors. Douglas Anderson, Field Sales Manager for the Glasgow and the West of Scotland area, rose to this challenge.
The mill building required 200 Enhanced Casement windows, 40 Shaped windows and 10 doors. Blairs was able to provide the customer with exactly what they required. The building is over 120 years old and due to settlement over that time, there were different problems with the installation of windows. On top of this, the windows themselves were already up to 1.75 metres wide and 3 metres tall. All products had to be manufactured to take account of unusual brickwork details, including arched lintels, but Blairs were equal to the test.
